Embark on a leisurely journey along the scenic canal, perfect for a day of exploration (though you could extend it to a two day journey if you prefer).
Start your day with a hearty breakfast at Carton House before beginning your adventure on the Royal Canal Greenway, bound for Lough Rynne. The Greenway follows the path of historic barges, boasting an array of picturesque sights including 90 bridges, 33 locks, 17 harbours, and four aqueducts. Whether you opt for the full 130km flat, off-road trail or choose one of the shorter designated routes, ranging from 6km to 15km, you'll discover charming towns and beautiful landscapes at the 14 connecting access points.
Along the way, don't miss the opportunity to visit renowned attractions like Carton House in Maynooth and the Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre in Longford, home to one of Europe's largest prehistoric roads. Immerse yourself in the rich history of the canal as you trace the paths once traveled by horse-drawn barges, and keep your eyes peeled for fascinating wildlife encounters throughout your journey.
Get ready for an exhilarating day of exploration on two wheels, with two fantastic options to choose from (139km or 175km).
For the first adventure, kick off your journey in Boyle and head northward, tracing the picturesque shores of Lough Arrow. As you pedal along, soak in breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean stretching out to your left. After a delightful lunch break in Rosses Point, continue your route towards the majestic Benbulbin before veering eastward towards Manorhamilton. The final stretch of 60km back to the hotel may be challenging, so ensure you're fueled up and ready to conquer it!
