    • Briefing.

    • Overnight in Coimbra

    • Meals: Not included

  • Today is a day dedicated to exploring the Mondego river. As we leave the urban area behind, we'll follow the N110 road winding alongside the river's meanders, where we'll encounter some of the beautiful river beaches and viewpoints. We highly recommend a visit to Penacova, as the ascent rewards us with expansive views from its viewpoint. Take a moment to recharge by sampling one of the local sweets. This area is renowned for its freshwater fish offerings. Continue upstream, passing by the "Livraria do Mondego" with their unique geological formations, until we reach your exclusive accommodation.

    • Distance: 44 km

    • Ascent: 584 m

    • Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

    • Sleep: Overnight in Aguieira

  • We continue upstream. After crossing the Aguieira Dam, the river transforms into a lake, where the Dão river meets the Mondego river, until we reach the Dão Cycle Path, where the river becomes our new landscape guideline. Along the way, we'll encounter old railway stations and several river beaches, perfect for a refreshing break to recharge our energy, like Tondela train station. The route unfolds entirely along the Dão Cycle Path, meandering through the typical Dão Demarcated Region Vineyards through oak and chestnut forests in a slightly uphill but extraordinarily beautiful and diverse path. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to visit small churches found in almost every village, adding a touch of cultural richness to your ride.

    • Distance: 63 km

    • Ascent: 896 m

    • Meals: Breakfast

    • Sleep: Overnight in Viseu

  • We depart from Viseu and set off westward along the Ecopista do Vouga. Along this undulating and diverse route, we'll pass through several villages where an authentic and sustainable way of life prevails, with a focus on subsistence agriculture. Take some time to visit the São Pedro do Sul thermal baths, where you can rejuvenate and indulge in some local gastronomy to replenish your energy. The approach to Vouzela is notable for the crossing of the impressive bridge, which also serves as an excellent location to pause and explore. Try the regional sweet, the Pastel de Vouzela.

    • Distance: 46.6 km

    • Ascent: 541 m

    • Meals: Breakfast

    • Sleep: Overnight in Oliveira de Frades

  • After breakfast, we gradually make our way to the west and the Atlantic coast. It will be a predominantly downhill day, allowing us to enjoy the tranquility of the Ecopista and its connection to the Vouga River. It will be the final stage in the mountainous region that characterizes the interior of Central Portugal, with its forests and rugged terrain. As we approach the end of the stage in Angeja, the landscape transitions to flat and humid areas, rich in riparian birdlife, with characteristic nests of white storks.

    • Distance: 59.5 km

    • Ascent: 439 m

    • Meals: Breakfast

    • Sleep: Overnight in Angeja

  • This stage, one of the easiest, takes us to Aveiro, known as the "Portuguese Venice" with its canals and the richness of the "Ria de Aveiro". Enjoy a leisurely afternoon in Aveiro, exploring the charming city with its picturesque canals and indulging in its unique and delightful cuisine.

    • Distance: 17.3 km

    • Ascent: 96 m

    • Meals: Breakfast

    • Sleep: Overnight in Aveiro

  • Cycle southwards to Ilhavo and visit the Marine museum to check some of the traditional boats still used today at the Aveiro lagoon. Also in Ilhavo, you can visit the factory and museum of Vista Alegre, Portugal's oldest fine porcelain producer, before crossing the Aveiro Lagoon to meet the ocean again in Vagueira. From here you can do a little detour to visit Costa Nova, home to a lovely sandy beach lined by colorful candy-striped houses, before cycling back to Vagueira and along the coast. Turning inland, you'll make your way to Praia de Mira. Praia de Mira, with the dunes and Atlantic on one side, and the peaceful lagoon of Barrinha de Mira on the other, is a pretty fishing village worth a stop before heading inland to tonight's charming local accommodation.

    • Distance: 49 km

    • Ascent: 279 m

    • Meals: Breakfast

    • Sleep: Overnight in Mira region.

  • To conclude our remarkable journey today, we head southeast towards the historic city of Coimbra, bringing our unforgettable adventure full circle. In this stage, you will travel along regional forest roads, dotted with small villages where you can easily have local experiences and find simple places for a light meal. We recommend stopping at Olhos de Fervença and Ança before your route meets the banks of the Mondego River, which will lead you to your final destination.

    • Distance: 40.2 km

    • Ascent: 337 m

    • Meals: Breakfast

    • Sleep: Overnight in Coimbra

  • You can make your way by train or bus from Coimbra to Porto / Lisbon, or take a private transfer from the hotel to Lisbon/Porto (optional).
