Mont Ventoux

This trip takes you to climb the Mont Ventoux from both Bédoin and Malaucène on a 4-day drip with guide in vehicle support and hotel accommodation - a short but challenging cycling break in Provence. The iconic Mont Ventoux climb, featured 15 times in the Tour de France, is also know as the “Giant of Provence”. At 1,912m it dominates the surrounding Provençal countryside and can be seen for miles as you approach.

You will be accompanied by our guide in the support vehicle who will carry snacks & water (provided) lunch, extra cycling gear or anything else you may need during the day.

 

They will also be able to give you tips on climbing the Mont Ventoux. In the evening, relax over a meal of Provencal cuisine at your hotel or one of the nearby restaurants.

Climb the Ventoux on the classic Tour de France route from Bédoin, a bucket-list ride for any cyclist. Live the myth on this 21.8km & 1622m climb at 7.15% average gradient, with breathtaking views from the summit.

 

Take the time to stop at the Tom Simpson memorial on the way up – or down! Plus, tackle the Ventoux climb from the Malaucène side, slightly shorter at 21.2km & 1535m, with a 7.24% average gradient.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS RATING

Challenging - you have a good level of fitness and are looking for a physically challenging holiday. Previous experience is essential for activity based trips.

Fly to Marseille airport. Group flight transfer organised in the afternoon to Sault.

  • Airport transfers by private transport, guests, luggage and bikes. Based on Marseille airport for arrival and departure, a time will be indicated to match group transfers

  • 3 night, B&B in a hotel du Louvre in Sault (or equivalent hotel), based on 2 people sharing per room.

  • 2.5 cycling days with itineraries and support vehicle.

  • One guide for the 3 days (guide in the support vehicle and organization – guide is not cycling).

  • Thursday: Arrival – Marseilles airport – transfer to Sault

    Arriving at Marseilles Provence airport and transfer to Sault (less than 2 hours transfer time). You will be staying in the Hotel du Louvre, in the centre village.


    Welcome meeting in the evening with your leader to check the bikes and do the last adjustments.


    If we have enough time, possibility to go for a nice ride, South West of Sault, through picturesque and rolling Provencal countryside.

  • Friday: Cycling Mont Ventoux climb (1910 m) Bedoin

    You will join Malaucène cycling via the magnificent Gorges de la Nesque. Then, you will cycle to Bedoin and climb the Mont Ventoux by the most famous Tour de France route.


    From Bedoin, 1610 m ascent to join the Col des Tempêtes with an average slope at 7,5 % reaching in some parts 10,7 %. Then descent to Sault.

  • Saturday: Cycling Mont Ventoux from Malaucène

    You will enjoy a lovely ride bringing you from Sault to Mollans sur Ouveze through the Toulourec valley. Once in Mollans sur Ouveze, then you will continue the ride and to turn left to Malaucène and climb Mont Ventoux from the north side, with 1535 m of climbing at 7,24% average gradient and 11% max. Then cycle down to the hotel in Sault where you will reach the group and the guide.

  • Sunday: Transfer to Marseilles airport

     

    Spend the morning in Sault at your own pace before a transfer to Marseille airport. If time, optional ride (self guided not included) in the morning.
